EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc.’s Anacostia East Wetland Restoration Design Project Wins Two Engineering Excellence Awards
Hunt Valley, Maryland (23 April 2009)—EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA)—a leading provider of environmental, engineering, and program/construction management services—announced today that its efforts on the Anacostia East Wetland Restoration Project for the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) recently won awards of excellence from both the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) and the American Council of Engineering Companies, Maryland Chapter (ACEC/MD). EA was awarded the Award of Excellence in the Consultant Environmental Design category by MdQI, and was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Project Award in Environmental by ACEC/MD.
EA designed and provided support during construction of the Anacostia East Wetland Restoration Project which, at 20 acres, is the largest and most complex tidal wetland mitigation project ever undertaken by SHA. The purpose of this project was to satisfy mitigation requirements associated with the construction of the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge, to create aquatic habitat, and to provide educational and recreational opportunities. “The project will have a significant, positive impact on the environment, as it increased the area of tidal wetlands within the Anacostia River watershed by 20 percent,” said Todd Nichols, Project Manager for SHA.
